Kory Bevelhymer Congress Buckle Presentation

The Congress NRHA Level 3 and 4 Open Reining Futurity finals is about crowning Quarter Horse Champions on the same grounds where the first National Reining Futurity was founded over 50 years ago.

These horses, trainers and owners have worked tirelessly to have the opportunity to be called The Congress Reining Futurity Champion. And with the commitment and compassion these individuals all have to their horses, one cannot help but appreciate the human bond that is created between horsemen and the horses they love and care for. They touch our lives and in return, we can give back and share this comradery with other horsemen to better each other's lives.

Last night, we honored one young horseman that has loved Reining horses since he was a boy, Mr. Kory Bevelhymer. Kory's mom, Annette, has been a scribe at the NRHA Futurity Finals for a decade. It was Kory's love for horses and reining that brought them into our reining horse lives.

Kory has fought Fanconi Anemia all of his life, but that has never stopped him from pursuing his passion to ride and show reining horses. He began riding with two prior Congress Champions, Debbie and Ollie Griffith.

Ollie says, "Kory isa great friend. He has always loved being a part of the reining horssssse industry. With his love of people and reining horses, he has proven to be a real credit to the National Reining Horse Association. Always a sense of humor, you could not ask for a better man.

Another prior Congress Reining Champion and recent past President of the Ohio Veterinary Medical Association, Dr. Tod Beckett, states: "I have watched Kory grow up around horses and I had the pleasure to work with him for several years in our veterinary hospital. Like a true cowboy, if he was scheduled at 7am, he would be there at 6:45 and be the last to leave, once he knew all of the animals were cared for. Nothing has ever been easy for Kory, some days he would be limping, sore or sick but that never stopped him. He had a job to do and he did it, never one complaining to his coworkers."

Kory is a great representative of the Reining horse world with his great attitude, work ethic and enthusiasm for not only our sport but for others he rode and worked with. Kory has impressed everyone that knows him with his courage to win. Last night, he was one of our Congress Champions.

Scott Myers, CEO of the Ohio Quarter Horse Association, presented a Congress Buckle to honor Kory last night.
